2nd Mission Trip to Kenya

A Call to Kenya
  • Buy tools at Harbor Freight
  • Spray clothes with insect repellent
  • Have nails trimmed short and polish removed
  • Start Malaria medication
  • Put away jewelry
  • Put on ugly work boots once again
If you know Rev. Rosemary Dubois, you know the above is not her run-of-the-mill check list. In fact, the thought of leaving the comforts of home for the jungles of Kenya gives Rosemary a moment of pause. But she learned on her 2012 trip with the Kenya Mission team that stepping outside of one’s comfort zone is not as difficult as she expected, especially when surrounded by seasoned and caring team members. In fact, she found that sharing the love of Christ with the people she met in Kenya outweighed even the most difficult hardships she encountered.

So, she is ready to take the plunge again as she prepares to leave on June 5th with the 2014 Kenya Mission team. And like God so often does, he gave Rosemary a little nudge to step out once more, urging her to invite her youngest son, Michael, to join her.

Michael, a 5th grade teacher, is the father of two small children, Rosemary reminded God. It wouldn’t be fair to his wife Jana to leave her for seventeen days alone with the kids. But God kept right on nudging, unperturbed by her concerns, until at last she decided to talk with her son about the possibility.

Since we know God works in big ways, you won’t be surprised to learn that Michael and his wife Jana had just a few days before talked about how incredible it would be to experience mission work in Kenya. So after a bit of discussion about the feasibility of Jana managing the children on her own, Michael jumped at the chance to serve in Kenya alongside his mother.

Of course, this trip will not be anything like her trip in 2012. Yes, they will build an AIDS Orphan home in the jungle, like they did before. She plans to once again minister to the people in the hospital and share the love of God with the patients and the staff. She will guide the team as they prepare to lead worship for the hospital employees on Wednesday morning. But this trip, her good friend and mission roommate Mary Arnold will not be present, kept in Houston by medical concerns. In 2012 Mary shared her passion for the children of Kenya with Rosemary and encouraged her to follow God’s calling and serve his people on the other side of the world. Now Rosemary is ready to share her passion for the children of Kenya with her son, Michael. And this trip, she’s better prepared--although not looking forward to the lack
of Diet Cokes and the non-existent thermostats for air conditioners and heaters. But mostly, she’s looking forward to seeing what God has in store for her and Michael and the rest of the team as they experience mission together.

What will the trip be like? Be sure and check-in here regularly and find out.
